# Guide to Repairing Loose or Noisy Furniture Hardware

After prolonged use, furniture hardware often becomes loose or starts making unusual noises, which can affect both the user experience and the furniture’s lifespan. Below are some common repair methods.

## Fixing Loose Hardware

### Loose Screws

Loose screws are a common issue with furniture hardware. If a screw on a wooden piece of furniture is loose, try tightening it with a screwdriver first. If the screw hole has become enlarged due to repeated assembly and disassembly, preventing the screw from staying secure, gather some fine wood shavings, mix them with white glue, and fill the screw hole with the mixture. Once the glue has dried and hardened, reinsert the screw. This will enhance the screw’s grip. For loose screws on metal furniture, first tighten the screw. If the screw hole is worn, use a screw one size larger, or apply threadlocker. This fills the gaps in the threads, increases friction, and prevents the screw from loosening again.

### Loose Connectors

When furniture connectors such as three-in-one connectors or corner brackets become loose, first check if the connector is damaged. If undamaged, simply use a tool to retighten it. For three-in-one connectors, adjust the position of the eccentric wheel to ensure a tight fit with the connecting rod; if a corner bracket is loose, use a screwdriver to tighten the screws securing it. If the connector is damaged, purchase a replacement of the same specifications.

### Squeaky Hinges

Hinges are common hardware components in furniture such as cabinets and wardrobes, and may begin to make a “creaking” sound after prolonged use. This is usually due to a lack of lubrication. Apply a few drops of lubricant, such as sewing machine oil or specialized hardware lubricant, to the moving parts of the hinge. Then, open and close the cabinet door repeatedly to allow the lubricant to fully penetrate; the noise will typically disappear. If the hinge is severely worn, replace it with a new one.

### Noisy Sliding Tracks

Noisy drawer sliding tracks are often caused by dust buildup or insufficient lubrication. First, pull the drawer out and use a small brush to clean dust and debris from inside the tracks. Then, apply an appropriate amount of grease or specialized sliding track lubricant to the tracks. Push the drawer back in and slide it in and out several times; this should eliminate the noise. If the tracks are warped or damaged, they must be replaced.
